Ella Langley now has the longest-running non-Christmas #1 song in the history of the Billboard Hot 100. Last week "Choosin' Texas," the crossover country smash from Langley's Dandelion, spent its 19th week atop the chart, pulling into a tie with Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus' "Old Town Road" and Shaboozey's "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" for the most weeks at #1. This week, the song spends a record-breaking 20th week at #1, Billboard confirms.

"Choosin' Texas" first hit #1 in February and has dropped out of the #1 spot five times, only to return to the top every time. It has remained at #1 uninterrupted for the past 10 weeks. The only song with more weeks at #1 is Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You," with 22. In 2019, thanks to the rise of streaming, Carey's Christmas classic began spending several weeks per year at #1 during the holiday season. It will presumably add more weeks at #1 this December, but before then, "Choosin' Texas" might have the legs to reach or surpass that 22-week mark.

Langley's reign may be further boosted by a "Choosin' Texas" remix featuring Drake. Rumors of a collaboration between the two artists began to swirl last week when Drake showed up at Langley's show in Arkansas. During a DJ set last night, Drake played a snippet of his own vocals singing the "Choosin' Texas" melody, seemingly teasing a remix. Notably, when Drake dropped three albums simultaneously in May, "Choosin' Texas" was the only song that kept him from monopolizing the Hot 100 top 10.

In related news, Doja Cat now knows who Langley is. During a recent appearance on the Sundae Conversations podcast, host Caleb Pressley asked Doja whether she was a Langley fan — an "Ella's fella," in Pressley's parlance — to which she responded, "I don't know what that is." Later, on her Twitch stream, Doja played "Choosin' Texas" and concluded, "Yeah, this is not my vibe, but she has a very pretty voice." She added, "If this is like #1 on the charts, it's 'cause people are like putting on their radios and shit. I'm sure it's, like, on the radio. I can see them playing this shit on the radio. I don't like it, but that's fine."

Doja's Twitch stream is where all the best music journalism is happening these days; for instance, it's where she recently called Tyga a penis.
